Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra(DHORA) held a news conference titled “Barrier in Protecting Bangladesh’s Rivers: Sonai Perspective” on Saturday, February 03, 2024, at 11:00 am at the National Press Club in the capital, Dhaka, marking the celebration of “World Wetlands Day 2024.” Sharmin Murshid, Co-convenor of DHORA’s Ad-hoc Committee and Chief Executive of Brotee, presided over the event. Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, former Chairman of the National River Conservation Commission and member of DHORA’s Advisory Committee, delivered valuable remarks on the pollution, encroachment, and other obstacles to river conservation in the country.

In the event, Sharif Jamil, Secretary and Waterkeepers Bangladesh Coordinator of DHORA’s Central Advisory Committee, presented a report on the barriers to Sonai River conservation.

Also present at the press conference were Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Professor at Temple University, USA, and member of DHORA’s Advisory Committee, M.S. Siddiqui, Private Advisor to the Competition Commission of Bangladesh and Co-Director of DHORA’s Central Advisory Committee, Gholam Sobhan Chowdhury, Advocate at the Supreme Court, Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Climate Specialist, Foysal Ahmed, Editor of River Bangla, Akbar Hossain, Commissioner of Ward 75, Ibnul Sayeed Rana, Chairman of Safe Development Foundation, and Sanjida Rahman, Coordinator of Chunuti Rokkhay Amra.
